Why Do I Write Two Works at Once? by Victorique Crawford (@EndlessMidnigh1)

There is one thing that stands out about my writing process when compared to others: I write two works at once.

To most, this probably seems like a really bad idea to attempt. But hear me out, there are reasons why this works for me, and benefits to such a method.

The foremost benefit and reason why I chose to do it, was the understanding that I easily tire of an idea. Or rather, I give up the moment that I run out of ideas, instead of working through the problems. Also, writing for just a few hours frustrates me and leaves me impatient.

When I work on just one piece, it is really easy to see the problems that arise for me. I am the type of person who always needs to be doing something or working on something; a break just never seems to be in my system. Since I started writing five years ago, I have never stopped for more than a day or two.

Even if I try to focus on the idea of just getting the one work out as soon as possible, I end up with a draft that I can barely work with and then somehow I just give it up because it is problematic and has so many issues. I then find myself unhappy with the piece and end up scrapping it or rewriting it entirely.

Another reason why I use this method is because originally, I was writing long serials. Or rather long series. To date, that still has not changed. It is the way that I think of things, and that to me made this solution attractive.

Why does this work for me?

I am a panster, although I spend more time planning these days. This approach helps me gain more ideas by writing something distinctively different. And it allows me to spend some time expanding on thoughts, or dallying with some ideas that I wouldn't have if I was just going all out at once.

My choice does have the downside of a much slower speed, so that is something for other people to consider. Although, to me the slower pace is beneficial as it lets me tinker with the direction and inspiration of the work and look for details worth expanding within the story.

As such, working on two works simultaneously has benefitted me, largely because of the person and writer that I am.
